For just £38 per person, you can indulge in some of our classic set menus and taste exquisite authentic recipes for yourself. Here, we’ll talk about the most celebrated traditions in the Chinese New Year, as well its history and the food that is shared in these events. We’ll also explore the reasons why our set menus will make your night one to remember!

2026: The Symbol Of The Horse & Yearly Traditions

This year, China celebrates the year of the horse. It’s a symbolism of strength, optimism and opportunity, which are all key values we’d like to share at Blue Pavilion.

The horse is the 7th animal in the 12 year Chinese zodiac cycle, and it’s also associated with fire, symbolic of passion and intensity. People born in the year of the horse are said to be ambitious and full of energy, as well as warm-hearted and adventurous.

2025 was the year of the snake, symbolising wisdom and transformation – just like the shedding of old skin celebrating a new one. Last year, many festivals featured snake costumes, decorations and carnival floats. Every year, on the Chinese New Year’s Eve (16th February) the traditions will start with family dinners, fireworks and the Spring Festival Gala. This is the largest TV show in China, where all families gather at home and watch it to say goodbye to the old year and welcome the new one.

During the day, big cities and towns in China often see many lively and colourful parades and performances through the streets, featuring dances, carnival floats, as well as outdoor fairs and markets. Many people like to purchase fresh spring flowers as a traditional mark of good luck before the New Year starts.

The day also consists of spiritual and religious worship, and many people attend temples to pray and carry out rituals such as incense burning, which is believed to bring good luck and blessings.

The History Of Chinese New Year

For over 2000 years, China has continued its 12 year zodiac cycle that switches from animal to animal, including the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. Deeply rooted in both astronomy and ancient folklore, this zodiac cycle tells so many stories.

Interestingly, the 12 year zodiac is partly based on Jupiter’s orbit as it takes approximately 12 years to orbit the sun, but it can also correspond to the 12 moons that are usually found in a solar year.

In terms of folklore, it has been understood that the symbols behind the animals date all the way back to the Jade Emperor, who invited all 12 animals to a “great race” across a river. The first 12 animals that won the race were awarded with having a zodiac year named after them!

In China, we celebrate the new year in February as we tend to follow a lunisolar calendar, as opposed to a Gregorian calendar that is used in the west. Each month begins with a new moonphase, so the lunisolar calendar follows this.

Key Signature Dishes Celebrated In The Spring Festival

There are several key dishes that many people love to eat as they celebrate the New Year in China, each holding cultural significance and symbolism behind their cuisine.

One of the most renowned dishes are Jiaozi dumplings, often made from ground pork, shrimp, ginger and dried pepper, and some vegetarian options usually have finely chopped leeks and shiitake mushrooms. Widely shared between friends and family, these dumplings symbolise wealth and prosperity as they’re said to resemble ancient Chinese gold ingots, a type of currency used in ancient imperial china.

Spring rolls are also another common dish that are prepared during the Chinese New Year, often made with various meats, vegetables and a crunchy wrapper. They also symbolise wealth and prosperity, and people share them for good luck as the new year approaches.

Changsou Mian is another authentic dish that people tend to enjoy during this tradition. Usually, it’s made with ginger, garlic and vegetables, and the long unbroken noodles are symbolic for longevity and a healthy life.

Valentine’s Day: Our Traditions In China

Just like in the UK, we celebrate Valentine’s Day in China on February 14th. The day is celebrated with romantic date nights, an exchange of flowers, gifts, chocolates and lots of delicious authentic Chinese dishes. We also celebrate the Qixi Festival on this date, whose traditions also follow a story of romance.

The story goes like this: in ancient Chinese mythology, Niulang, a poor cowherd, fell in love with Zhinü, a fairy and the Goddess’s daughter. They married secretly and had two children. When the Goddess discovered this, she forced Zhinü back to heaven. Niulang followed her using his ox’s hide, but the Goddess separated them by creating the Milky Way – she used her hairpin and slashed it across the sky to magically create our galaxy. The lovers were only allowed to meet once a year, on the seventh night of the seventh moon, when magpies form a bridge across the sky.

In China, there are common traditions that arise in this festival, such as praying at local temples, indulging in delicious food and partaking in rituals. So, this time of year is certainly about romance, cherishing the time we have together and celebrating our relationship – we want to give you the space to do this in our ambient Blue  restaurant.

  • Food Presentation & Chinese Culture: Experience Fine Dining With Us

Food Presentation & Chinese Culture: Experience Fine Dining With Us

The Art of Food Presentation: How It Enhances Your Experience

All across Asian cuisine, food presentation is an art that goes beyond taste. Each dish tells a story about different cultural aspects of China, from the landscapes, literature and history.

Here at Blue Pavilion, we focus on providing our guests with beautifully presented dishes. Our chefs thoughtfully craft each dish when presented to you at your table, so you’re sure to expect high standards of quality when it comes to the taste.

Join us as we explore the rich history behind food presentation in China, as we discuss some of elegant cocktails and signature dishes. We’ll also explain how our décor and private dining goes hand in hand with our food presentation, making your night here unforgettable!

The History Of Food Presentation In China

The art of decorated gastronomy tells a story about China’s history, landscapes and cultural events. Long before our contemporary world, the imperial courts of China during the Tang (618-907 CE) and Qing (1644-1912) dynasties were experts in culinary artistry. In these food courts, food was an expression of power, refinement and culture. They took pride in creating each dish so that it pleased the eye as well as your taste buds.

This led onto the expression of folding techniques, as dumplings were fashioned into intricate crescent shapes to show off skill and precision. Banquet dishes also often featured impressive arrangements of sculpted vegetables and meat carved into symbolic shapes.

Edible flowers also have long been used to give each dish the touch of delicacy that it deserves. Their colourful contrast adds so much visual interest, as well as beautiful aromas.

Throughout the years, presentation of foods continued to carry plenty of cultural significance, such as golden-coloured foods representing wealth and prosperity, and noodles are widely recognised for being symbols of longevity and good fortune.

It has often been said that Chinese dishes are inspired by so many different aspects of the country, drawing inspiration from art, architecture, literary history and even folklore. Even the names of each dish allude to one of these aspects, such as our “Jiuzhaigou Hu” cocktail that is in reference to the beautiful Jiuzhaigou valley in southwestern China, a UNESCO world heritage nature reserve that’s famous for its picturesque lakes and distant mountains.

Our philosophy at Blue Pavilion is to carry on this value of taking pride in making our dishes look wonderful. Rather than just being final touches, the aesthetics of our dishes and cocktails play an essential role in the whole process of providing you with a gorgeous dining experience.

Key Signature Dishes That Have Striking Aesthetics

We take pride in presenting each dish in a beautiful and striking way, so they’re sure to take your breath away when our kind waiting staff serve them to your table. Let’s take a look at some examples of our signature dishes:

    Fillet Stake In Pecking Sauce

The fillet steak pecking sauce is just one of our finely presented dishes. Adorned with a vibrant pink orchid flower that contrasts with the dark tones of the meat, this dish takes you on a journey of food that satisfies all of the senses.

The pink orchid is one of the most traditionally valued flowers in China. Representing balance, harmony and beauty, this flower adds so much grace to our dishes. They’re frequently seen in traditional Chinese ink paintings, poetry and calligraphy, as well other notable flowers like pansies and chrysanthemums.

Combined with tender meat that’s bathed in rich pecking sauce and melts in your mouth, you’re sure to be blown away by our Fillet Stake, thanks to our chef’s culinary excellence in both aromatics and presentation.

    Signature Pecking Duck

Our Signature Pecking Duck is also definitely one to remember: presented in a beautiful jewellery-box inspired chest, this dish is a completely unique experience in itself.

Whether you’re celebrating with family and friends and want to have a luxurious night, this signature dish is a perfect option as it becomes the centrepiece of the table.

Featuring layers of spring onions, pancakes, cucumber and duck, this dish holds so much cultural significance to China. Pecking duck originally comes from Beijing, which was also historically named Pecking – tt dates back to the imperial era, and was served to Chinese emperors. It’s often shared, symbolising community and togetherness.

The Art Of Presentation In Our Drinks

Just like our beautiful dishes, our cocktails and mocktails are also abundant with visual elegance and presentation. Our Sakura Symphony is artfully decorated with a real fresh rose, perfect for putting a smile on your partner’s face on a romantic date night.

Sakura, referring to Japanese blossoms, tells a story about Asia’s beautiful natural landscapes as you enjoy the sweet blend of cranberry and raspberry.

Our Daiqing Pearl is a harmonious blend of togarashi spice, salt and brown sugar, presented with a zesty lime that sharpens the senses, both visually and for the palate.  “Daiqing – 代青” in China means “great blue,” which ultimately evokes feelings of relaxation, and pearls have been valued in China for centuries for their luxury.

To see more examples of our beautifully presented cocktails, why not visit our Instagram to see more amazing videos and content?

    The Role Of Ambience

For a bit of theatre, we love to present our dishes with dry ice that creates an atmospheric vapor effect. Creating a ceremonial performance, our beautiful dishes presented in mist will definitely make a night to remember. The swirling fog gives a bit of drama to each dish, echoing traditions where anticipation and presentation is core to Chinese gastronomy.

We also offer private dining experiences, where you can enjoy delicious and beautifully presented dishes in our exclusive and quiet settings with family and friends. If you want to get away from all the hustle and bustle, you can experience beautiful dishes with uninterrupted conversations and laughter in our intimate dining settings.

Our thoughtfully arranged dishes, subtle lighting, gorgeous décor and ambient jazz music is what certainly makes people love our restaurant. From visitors all across the UK and our chinese friends, people love our restaurant not only for our delicious dishes, but for our chefs’ keen eye for presentation.

2026 is the year of the horse in China , symbolising strength, beauty and a free spirit – it’s a positive way to begin the new year with these values!

Before we dive into what’s available on our set menu, we’ll explore the history and culture of Chinese New Year and what’s involved in this annual tradition.

How We Celebrate The New Year In China

The Chinese New Year Festival will be celebrated between 17th February – 3rd March 2026. It’s also known as the Spring Festival, where families gather to celebrate – there’s plenty of street parties, fireworks and delicious food!

Originally, the Spring Festival was a time to pray to gods for good planting and crops during the harvesting season as the warmer weather approached, as well as fighting off evil spirits and monsters by lighting fireworks and dressing up in red costumes.

Every year is symbolised by an alternating Chinese zodiac sign that’s an animal or mythical creature, each representative of various meanings, themes and values. 2025 was the year of the snake, with the themes wisdom, mystery, intuition and transformation, whose shedding of the skin is symbolic for new beginnings. In Chinese mythology, Nüwa is the goddess that’s recognised for having a woman’s head and a serpent’s body, with the story that she created humanity out of yellow clay – she embodies new beginnings, wisdom and protection.

Next year, 2026 will be symbolised by the horse, with key themes of becoming free-spirited, strong and healthy. So, why don’t we celebrate the year of the horse by enjoying some delicious authentic Chinese recipes?

    Taste Our Delicious Signature Starter

In our New Year’s Eve set menu, you can start off your dining experience with a burst of flavour that sets the tone for the rest of the night. Our harmonious fusion of Japanese, Chinese and Mediterranean cuisine will ensure that you start your night in a unique way, setting the tone for the rest of our exquisite dishes and putting a smile on your face!

    Indulge In A Second Course

We love to treat our guests and start the New Year in a fruitful way by offering you a second course that follows up from our starters. Our Blue Pavilion Peking duck includes some fluffy savoury pancakes, cucumber and spring onion, whose origins are deeply rooted in Chinese tradition.

Using traditional Chinese cooking techniques such as grilling, stir-frying and steaming, our chefs take pride in making our meals taste delicious whilst keeping the nutrients and healthy properties intact.

Why not indulge in our gorgeous side dish? Our tenderstem broccoli has a mild bitterness that contrasts beautifully with our main menu options, such as the grilled salmon filet in sweet soy sauce. A tasty side dish that’s on a bed of garlic and ginger sauce, it’s a traditional blend of ingredients that have been valued in China for thousands of years, thanks to their healing and spiritually cleansing properties. So, not only are our dishes delicious, but they’re also made with health, prosperity and abundance in mind.

How Blue Pavilion Creates A Relaxing And Cosy Atmosphere For Guests

Fine dining and a relaxing ambiance is not only discovered through our authentic Chinese cuisine – at Blue Pavilion, we believe that our beautifully arranged decor, atmospheric background music and lighting plays an integral role when it comes to providing you with a relaxing experience, making it a retreat in the heart of bustling Leeds city centre.

Our restaurant is a beautiful cosy escape where you can enjoy aromatic dishes that reflect the culture, landscapes and history of China. Whether you’re planning a date night to treat your significant other, you’re going out with family or visiting your friends, our restaurant is renowned for providing our guests with a cosy experience that they deserve. So, why don’t we take a look at what makes our restaurant so unique in delivering this cosy experience?

How Our Soft Music Plays A Role In Our Restaurant’s Ambience

Psychologically, it is understood that music can actually have a huge impact, not only on your dining experience, but also the taste of your food and your enjoyment levels of it.

In our restaurant, we like to play smooth piano and instrumental jazz music that’s soft, melodious and subtle. You can enjoy wonderful music and acoustic strumming as you indulge in our luxurious dishes, without your conversation being interrupted.

Our relaxing ambient music makes it perfect for date nights, or families with children who would like to go to a quieter space to enjoy their food and family time, whilst being able to hear each other over the music.

Elegant Lighting: How Our Low-lit Restaurant Makes All The Difference

Our restaurant is low-lit to create an atmospheric feel all throughout the restaurant. Bathed in different colours of light, you’re sure to be relaxed, calm and right at ease when you enter our beautiful restaurant.

One of our main lighting elements is the soft blue light that not only reflects our restaurant’s theme, but makes you feel relaxed as you enjoy your set menu and desserts. Blue is known as the colour tone that evokes calm, relaxation and reduces anxiety – we also have this tone in our projection effect that’s dappled over our walls for a serene atmosphere.

In historical Chinese culture, blue also has a significant symbolic meaning that is said to represent spring, healing, new beginnings and tranquility. So, you can see how these calming themes and messages are not only present within our food, but they’re also created in our lighting.

Decorated throughout the restaurant, we also have our white light chandeliers that are designed with ornate Chinese calligraphy, making a blend of contemporary and traditional themes. They’ll make you feel welcomed if you’re a new guest, or right at home if you’re one of our regular visitors from China.

The Importance Of Our Decor And What It Means For Your Experience

We take pride in our beautiful décor in our restaurant, not only to reflect the beauty of Chinese tradition and landscapes, but to create a relaxing ambience for our guests.

One of the main features you’ll see when you visit us is our trailing white and pink blossom trees that are artfully arranged throughout our restaurant. Not only does this mirror the sakura cherry blossom trees that flourish on the landscapes of China and Japan, but they also evoke calm and make our guests feel at ease as they enter our restaurant.

Throughout the restaurant, you’ll also notice our premium marble floors and tables that are in a dark shade, which contrast nicely with our soft blue and white lighting. We like to incorporate this into our colour scheme to avoid the feel of being over-stimulated, and make you feel tranquil and at ease in this intimate environment.

To make you feel comfortable, our seating is designed to make you feel supported and cosy as you enjoy authentic meals. Including a wide variety of bar stools, low-level dining chairs and sofa chairs, our seating is designed to help with posture and make you feel comfortable with their plush materials.

Our Food Presentation & Why It Makes our Ambience So Relaxing

Beautifully presented with delicate herbs and flowers, our food is not only delicious but aesthetically pleasing, perfect for your social media pictures and an effective way to provide you with a comforting ambience. This connection to nature is not only pretty to look at, but it encourages our visitors to feel a sense of calm and serenity.

We like to impress our guests when we present our dishes with our luxurious dry-ice effect. When hot water is added to dry ice, it creates a vapor effect as the cold ice makes the hot water quickly condense into mist – it certainly makes for a memorable experience! It also complements our calming ambiance as it has a mystic, mesmerising feel.

Our Private Dining Room Options Can Further Enhance Your Relaxing Experience

If you would like to take the extra step when it comes to having an intimate dining experience, we have a wide range of luxurious private dining options to choose from that we will be able to accommodate you with when you book in advance.

What’s On Our Christmas Set Menus?

Both of our Christmas set menus make delicious options to try as you celebrate seasonal events throughout November and December. So, let’s take a look at what each one offers with suggestions on what you could try.

    Starters

Our classic set menu has beautifully arranged starters, such as the Kaitafi Dragon Rolls. These are inspired by Japanese dragon rolls, infused in shredded phyllo dough – it’s crunchy, savoury and delightful to the senses.

Featured on our Christmas Supreme Set Menu, the Iberico Sui Mai stater is lovingly made with rich pork, seasoned in aromatic soy sauce and enclosed in Sui Mai wrappers (made with egg and flour). This starter holds a lot of cultural significance in Chinese traditions, as its origins date all the way back to the Song Dynasty (960-1279 AD) which was a golden age for Chinese innovation, economy and prosperity. For this reason, it’s a dish that symbolises abundance and prosperity, which goes hand in hand with the generosity, happiness and goodwill that we share in the UK during the Christmas period.

    Mains

Our mains in the Classic Christmas Set menu will bring so much joy to your evening as you follow them up from a delicious starter. An example of this is the Sichuan Crispy Chicken With Dried Chilli & Red Peppercorn. Sichuan, a region in southwestern China that is recognised for its striking Hengduan Mountains and deep valleys of  Himalayan foothills, is a place that is abundant with flavoursome and aromatic gastronomy. This main course option is a meaty, crunchy dish with citrusy and slightly lemony notes of peppercorn, with mild spiciness and a balance of sweet and savory flavourings.

From our supreme set menu, you might fancy trying our Steamed Sea Bass with Ginger & Spring Onions. To celebrate Christmas in an authentic Chinese way, this dish is the epitome of Chinese cooking philosophies. Our chefs steam the sea bass, which is a technique that’s been used in Chinese cooking for thousands of years. It has been said that steaming fish keeps its rich flavours and retains its nutrients, as opposed to boiling or frying them.

For an aromatic touch, the ginger spices also play an important role in this cultural dish, with its healing properties and striking notes that balance beautifully with the fish and spring onions. In China, seabass is often served at special banquets and celebrations such as the Lunar New Year, but its richness, flavours and ingredients make it a wonderful seasonal dish to choose as you celebrate with family and friends.

    Desserts

After tasting our delicious meals from either one of our Christmas menus, you’ll be excited to taste one of our scrumptious desserts that end the night on a memorable note. Both menus feature dessert options of Christmas Special Basque Cheesecake, Oreo Matcha Cake, Salted Cream Oreo Cake and the Crème Brûlée Delight (GF).

The Oreo Matcha Cake has been made with powdery layers of matcha that is derived from Japan, traditionally grounded from green tea leaves. So if you want to finalise your night with a general Asian cuisine experience, this may be a great option for you.

After having a spicy Sichuan dish, for example, the Christmas Special Basque Cheesecake might make a great option for you since its layers of creamy texture and sweetness will balance nicely and contrast this main dish.

Classic Set Menu Vs Supreme Set Menu: Which One Should You Choose?

Now you have an insight into some examples of our dishes that are featured on our Christmas menus, with a little bit of information on their ingredients and their history, we’ll break down which set menu you could potentially pick from in order to make your night an unforgettable experience.

The classic Christmas Set Menu is available all day. It’s a more budget friendly option in contrast to the supreme experience, featuring lighter bites and the same desserts. It’s great for smaller groups and romantic dinner dates! So, if you would like to dine in style and treat your partner to some wonderfully authentic Chinese dishes during November or December, the classic Christmas set menu could be a perfect option for you.

With it being available all day, you don’t have to arrange to dine in the evening, allowing you to enjoy a nice lunch in the afternoon. This is also ideal for those with children under 10 years old, between 12 and 5pm. It is a part of our family policy that after 7pm, unfortunately children under 10 years old will no longer be allowed in the restaurant. We recommend that you book a table in advance during the daytime to avoid the loud music that is unsuitable for babies.

Our Supreme Christmas Set Menu is ideal for larger groups, Christmas work parties, special events with multiple people and for more formal dining occasions. It’s perfect if you’re feeling particularly indulgent and would like to treat yourself and other people. It features alternative starters to our classic Christmas menu, so if these take your fancy, you’re more than welcome to opt for this menu choice.

If you are gluten free, vegan or vegetarian, there’s no need to worry – both our Christmas Menu options cater for this. Please inform a member of staff in advance if you have any allergies, and we will try our best to accommodate you.

Make Unforgettable Memories At Blue Pavilion

Don’t hesitate to book your night at Blue Pavilion during the Christmas period. Whether you’re planning a romantic evening dinner date with your partner, going for lunch with your family, or booking a Christmas party with your work colleagues, we will arrange an amazing dining experience for you in the heart of Leeds city centre.

  • The Role of Aromatics in Chinese Cuisine

The Role of Aromatics in Chinese Cuisine

Discover the story behind the role of aromatics in Chinese cuisine, with its links to traditions and how we use them to make our delicious dishes.

The Role Of Aromatics In Chinese Cuisine

For thousands of years, Chinese cuisine and culture has deeply rooted its art for aromatics in dishes with different ingredients such as herbs, spices and seasonings. At Blue Pavillion in Leeds, you’ll experience authentic Chinese dishes that combine these layers of spices, herbs, vegetables and flavours – we’d love for you to join us and try our Mid-Autumn Set Menu or pick any of our delicious dishes from our other menus.

Available Sunday to Friday, our Mid-Autumn Set Menu offers incredible value at just £29.95 per person, including a starter, main course and side. Want to treat yourself and others? Add a second course or dessert for just £8 extra or go all out and enjoy both for the ultimate indulgence.

Let’s take a look into how aromatics play an important role in making our main courses, desserts and drinks taste beautifully delicious, and how these ingredients are quintessential in Chinese cultural traditions.

    What Are Aromatics?

Aromatics are a blend of ingredients such as herbs and spices, and they are integral to layering flavours and infusing fragrances. Many of these spices and herbs are implemented in dishes that are significant to Chinese traditions. From lotus seed pastes used in mooncakes during the Mid-Autumn Festival, to golden crispy spring rolls in the Chinese Spring Festival, aromatics play a fundamental role in Chinese food and traditions.

During the cooking process, many of our chefs sizzle aromatics in oil to help release their fragrances, a signature technique when it comes to crafting authentic dishes.

Throughout the centuries, it has often been believed that the ingredients we use in food are for the soul and spirit, not just the body. That’s why visiting Blue Pavilion isn’t just about enjoying delicious food, but the entire experience and how both food and the environment makes you feel. Aromatics play a large role in that entire experience.

Aromatics In Our Signature Autumnal Dishes

During the autumn season, many people in China enjoy celebrating the Chongyang festival, also commonly known as the Double Ninth Festival. Celebrating nature, climbing mountains and valuing spiritual healing, this festival is also widely recognised for its aromatic dishes and herbal teas. Chrysanthemum tea is primarily associated with this festival as these flowers tend to bloom in autumn, becoming a symbol of purity and nobility, as well as fighting off illnesses that affect us during the cold seasons.

Aromatics such as ginger, garlic, spring onions and chili are often found in traditional Chinese medicine to support immunity and enhance spirituality – these are key values that reflect the spirit of the Chongyang Festival, which centres on connecting with nature and showing deep respect for the elderly. These fundamental flavourings make up some of our delicious and decoratively presented autumnal dishes!

An enticing fusion of garlic, star anise and ginger, Dong Po Pork is a delicious main course option to treat yourself throughout the autumn season. Thanks to its balance of hearty herbs and spices that act as restorative healing properties, this dish ties in with the themes of spirituality and honouring elders at the Chongyang Festival.

Mongolian Sauce and King Po Chicken is also a wonderful option as a main, with its composition of layered dried chilis, garlic, ginger and spring onions. The aromatic sharpness and energising ingredients make it a great option for the cooler months, this healthy and rejuvenating dish is sure to warm you up.

The Role Of Aromatics In Our Cocktails

Just like our dishes, we use a wide variety of ingredients to create indulgent cocktail recipes that mirror Chinese cuisine too. They can include anything from a layer of teas, flowers and spices to fruits, wines and spirits, all of which give you a bubbling taste of Chinese inspired fragrant beverages. Let’s take a look at some of our gorgeous cocktails that can be paired with our unique dishes.

The Jiuzhaigou Hu cocktail, named after the beautiful Jiuzhaigou valley located in southwestern China, is a dynamic blend of Roku, aperitif wine, blue curacao, lemon and bitters. The citrusy sharpness of the lemon blends harmoniously with the floral Roku, making it a great option to pair it with the Dong Po Pork, where the cocktail’s citrus notes contrast nicely with the pork’s richness.

A similar option that you may consider is the Xing Fu cocktail, meaning “Happy” in Mandarin Chinese. It’s a delicious combination of Roku, peach liqueur, lemon and raspberry, whose aromatic layers make it a perfect option if you’re one for fruity and sweet cocktails. Combining sweet tastes, fantastic presentation and a positive meaning behind it, this cocktail is sure to make you smile!

Our Chang’An cocktail is an aromatic blend of Kakuzo Yazo, lychee Liqueur, sake and prosecco. Named after an ancient Chinese city, the Chang’An cocktail has aromatics that not only enhance the cocktail’s refreshing taste, but reflect the ancient Chinese philosophy of using fragrant ingredients to invigorate the senses and support well-being.

    Matcha In Complementary Desserts

Aromatics play an important role not only in Chinese cuisine, but in Asian food as a whole. Our Matcha Oreo Cake combines indulgent flavours of chocolate oreo with earthy matcha powder, originally sourced in Japan. It is a great option to follow your Fillet Steak In Mongolia Sauce or Dong Po Pork, where its light bitterness complements these dishes and brings your dining experience to a satisfying finish.

We like to present our desserts in artful, visually appealing ways, as we believe that this helps to contribute to their fragrance and aromatics too (plus it adds to the overall experience as well!).Pairing our desserts with strawberries, macrons, blueberries and blackberries gives our ice creams and cakes a lighter, sweeter feel that is delightful to the senses too.

Experience These Aromas In Our Authentic Chinese Restaurant

Come and taste our delicious dishes that combine various aromas and flavours, energising body and spirit in our traditional ways. For only £29.95 per person you can enjoy our Chinese cuisine and have a unique, memorable dining experience.

But before we delve into what delicious dishes you’ll find on our new set-menu, let’s take a look at the history of the Mid-Autumn festival and what makes it so special in Chinese culture.

    Mid Autumn Set Menu

    What Is The Mid-Autumn Festival?

Also known as the Mooncake Festival or the Moon Festival, the Mid-Autumn Festival dates back over 3,000 years to the Shang Dynasty and its origins are rooted in the worshipping of the moon in the hope of a really good harvest.

The ancient Chinese believed that the moon and water were associated with rejuvenation, hence the worshipping in the hopes of a good harvest. For example, the Zhuang people have an ancient fable that describes the sun and the moon as a couple and the stars as their children. Then, when the moon is pregnant, it becomes round (hence the full moon) and then after giving birth to a child (or a star in this instance) it becomes a crescent moon. So you can see how the full moon is associated with new life and rejuvenation, especially with the timing of the full moon during harvest time.

People would worship the moon to give thanks for the harvest and encourage the ‘harvest-giving light’ to return during the following year. Whilst today, many people have enough food supplies, the tradition of the festival lives on and over the many years, how and why everyone celebrates has evolved.

Today, the core principles of the celebration revolve around three fundamental concepts. The gathering of friends and family to celebrate and ‘harvest crops’. The giving of thanks to the moon for the harvest, which is also represented through the gifting of and sharing of mooncakes to and with one another and finally praying for good things to come in the future (traditionally a good harvest the following year).

Whilst regional traditions differ, the festival is usually celebrated by worshipping the moon (families will often eat outside on the night of the full moon), lighting various types of lanterns and enjoying the making, sharing and eating of mooncakes.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is the second most important festival celebrated in China after Chinese New Year and is a public holiday there too. This year the festival falls on October 6th and many will be looking forward to a big celebration.

What’s On Our New Mid-Autumn Festival Set Menu?
